"Running Down a Dream" - Tom Petty
Whenever we are asked to describe our journey, a broad smile instinctively covers my face as it is parallel to our favourite activity, a Road Trip!
We had a vehicle that serviced us well, it was paid for and servicing costs were minimal. It took us where we wanted to go, however, it just was not that exciting any longer. We also knew one day it would break down leaving us scrambling to replace it. (Our old careers). It was time to step it up and get a different car with new features to create a whole new perspective of our trip. So, we bought a new one (Inception of Cedar Peaks).
With a new car, you load it up with some of the “stuff” from your old one, checking every nook and cranny – leaving the redundant for the trash barrel. You fill up the gas tank, and away you go, the beginning of the new ride.
Then it starts, who gets to drive it first (Okay fine, we’ll divide the driving time). What setting for audio, hot/cold, etc. (Okay, we each have separate controls for most things, the audio however is still being debated to this very day)! We always find the solution in the middle.
On an extended trip, you become distracted by so many things, such as an animal jumping from the ditch, a car coming right at you or following too close, a section of black ice, you all know what I’m talking about. We critique the manner in how the other one drives, too fast, too slow, pass, whoa Buddy - what the heck were you thinking. We know that the one riding shotgun always has their eyes focused for anything the other may not see.
There are also things that delay your journey, flat tire, filling up the gas tank, bathroom breaks, stormy weather and sometimes just stopping to take in the beauty of a landscape. We each have equal patience in understanding that this is part of the experience (the ups and downs that come with owning a business).
Cedar Peaks is our permanent Road Trip. We instinctively know when to give the other a break from behind the wheel, let them listen to that stupid tune just because it makes them happy, or listening to their rambling conversation. We have met so many incredible people/clients along our journey that are now friends/clients.
